God Notes
Jesus, Lord of All
A short devotional on Psalms 121:1,2.
Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to God Notes. A daily devotional podcast sent out from sunny Southern California.
Today is Thursday, January 11, 2023.
I am setting up a new studio here and working on the audio quality, so please excuse the sound quality for a few days here.
This week I went to some meetings at Loma Linda University, a local Christian university here in Southern California.
There was a man there leading music by the name of Elia King. And he sung this song I had never heard before. I will not sing it for you, but here are the words.
In the fire, in the flood, through the need and through enough.
We say Jesus you are Lord of all.
In the light, in the dark, with our lips and with our hearts,
We say Jesus you are Lord of all.
Ever faithful, ever true
Ever sure to see us through.
We surrender all to you.
We say Jesus you are Lord of all
In the sun, in the rain
through the joy and through the pain.
We say Jesus you are Lord of all.
In the calm, in the storm, when we sing and when we mourn.
We say Jesus you are Lord of all.
The song spoke to me in a way I didn't expect. And I was left with a renewed sense of what it is to call Jesus Lord. We don't use the word 'Lord' much today except in a religious context. Maybe today we would say "master" or "boss". The one in charge.
It reminds me of the first two verses of Psalms 121, which says:
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
In our busy, and sometimes broken lives, it is good to pause and remember someone's in charge.
Our help comes from the Lord, our Master, our Boss, the Maker of heaven and earth.
May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow.
