A short devotional on James 2:14-17.

Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to God Notes.  A daily devotional podcast sent out from sunny Southern California.

Today is Monday, January 7, 2024.

James 2:14-17 says:

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

There are certainly people who wish others well and don't do anything to help them. James here tells us these live a hollow faith, which is really no faith at all.

But there is another kind of people on this earth. A kind of people who are the very opposite of what James is warning us about. People who see someone's need and do what they can to take care of their fellow humans. People who having a living faith.

These are my favorite kind of humans.

And I have been privileged to work with many of them. Right now I work with two churches who are good at wrapping their arms around people in crises. It's an amazing thing to see. People who live out their faith. People whose faith makes a difference in the world. Makes this world a better place to be.

Today, as we think about faith and works,  I want to say thank you to those people who choose to make this world a better place. People who live out an active faith.

It's amazing to see. Thank you. Your deeds are proving who you really are.

May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow.
