A short devotional on Luke 1:46-55.

Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to God Notes.  A daily devotional podcast sent out from sunny Southern California.

Today is Sunday, December 24, 2023.

When we read the Bible, we don't learn a lot about Mary, the mother of Jesus. She speaks a few times in the narrative. But there is one place where she expresses her thoughts and feelings for several verses. It is when she visits Elizabeth, John the Baptists mother before Jesus is born.

It is often called Mary's Song, and it expresses her feelings about what is happening to her.

Luke 1:46 - 55 says:

46 And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord

47     and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

48 for he has been mindful

of the humble state of his servant.

From now on all generations will call me blessed,

49     for the Mighty One has done great things for me—

    holy is his name.

50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,

    from generation to generation.

51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;

he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones

but has lifted up the humble.

53 He has filled the hungry with good things

but has sent the rich away empty.

54 He has helped his servant Israel,

    remembering to be merciful

55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,

just as he promised our ancestors.”

A young woman amazed what God is willing to do with her, a humble poor woman.

This Christmas season God wants to work in your life and do great things. Will you let him?

May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow.
